In this video, we compare Decent’s new Bengle espresso machine with the well-loved DE1.
Both machines make the same high-quality espresso and run the same tablet app. But Bengle adds a number of refinements, conveniences, and design upgrades.
Here’s a detailed look at the differences:
*Built-in scale*
Bengle: Scale integrated into drip tray.
DE1: Requires a separate Bluetooth scale placed on top.
*Pump technology & water flow*
DE1: Large piston movements, more audible, slightly splashy flow.
Bengle: High-frequency micro-movements, smoother flow, ~50% faster peak water output.
*Cup warmer & storage*
Bengle: Heated cup warmer for up to 25 cups, thermostat controlled.
DE1: Cool top surface, not usable for cup storage.
*Milk steaming & thermometer*
Bengle: Built-in thermometer in the steam wand, plus commercial-grade steam power (as fast as 14s for a latte on 240V).
DE1: Requires external milk thermometer; slower steaming times.
*Tablet & interface*
DE1: 8-inch, 1280×800 tablet, USB-A charging.
Bengle: 11-inch Samsung tablet, 1080p, dual USB-C charging ports.
*Warm-up time*
DE1: ~4.5 minutes.
Bengle: ~2 minutes.
*Water tank & refilling*
DE1: Porcelain tank, heavier, requires lever + back access.
Bengle: Enamel-coated stainless tank, lighter, easier front access with integrated lid.
*Handles & finishes*
DE1: Black resin “piano key” handles.
Bengle: Oak handles (or sculptural options on special models).
*Steam wand & safety*
DE1: Metal tip and ball joint get hot; more cleaning required.
Bengle: PPS plastic tip stays cool, easier to clean; direct boiler-to-tip design removes burn risk and boosts efficiency.
*Adjustable feet*
DE1: Fixed rubber feet.
Bengle: Height-adjustable feet for uneven countertops.
*Shot mirror*
DE1: Plastic mirror, adhesive, replaceable.
Bengle: Polished steel mirror, screw-mounted, more durable.
*Grouphead & internal parts*
DE1: Brass grouphead.
Bengle: Cast stainless steel grouphead, built-in LED lighting to illuminate espresso as it pours.
*Cost*
Bengle: ~50% more expensive than DE1.
DE1: Still the lower-cost entry to the Decent lineup.
Takeaway: Both machines deliver Decent’s hallmark precision espresso. Bengle adds higher-end materials, faster steaming, smoother water flow, and a more premium user experience.

Is the plastic tip of steam hazardous because plastic cab take upto 65 above that will turn into somthing else will be cancerous did u look into that ?!
I love the white
I will wait for v1.2 I suppose. Absolutely need to have black. Launching with white is a mystery, but they are a growing company so who are we to question? They hopefully have done their marketing research and have data showing white coffee appliances sell at higher rates…. Right? 🤔
متي سيتم بيع البنغل الجديده انا انتظر بفارق الصبر
When will it be released?
Beautiful espresso machines.
You mention both machines make same quality espresso, but with the higher flow rate in the Bengle, would that not result in it being able to get closer to lever style output?
Is the new espresso machine also 50% louder than the extremely loud Decent?
BLACK PLEASE!
Awesome!!!!
Great video, with clear details.
The Bottomline upfront is so refreshing from a business that’s so honest and transparent and consumer focused. For this reason I’ll upgrade from my DE1 the day I can swing the funds!
Dear team, which version is recommended for home kitchen in Europe/Switzerland? 220V and 10A right? Whatd the estimated heatup time for this
Always a pleasure to watch.
It’s a shame we cannot find a way to provide more steam power from 120v outlets. How could you improve efficiency to achieve this is the question!
@decentespresso I note that the Bengle requires a 15A outlet, which is fine for commercial sites.
However, would it be viable to have a domestic version suitable for 10A outlets, by sacrificing warm-up time, steaming pressure/time and the cup warmer?
I hope the Bengle will be available in black. Because the Maro is and in 2026 I will upgrade to either one of them – but the color black is a must for me in my stainless steel kitchen with all the other kitchen gadgets in black already. Willing to wait, but an announcmemt would be helpful😅
Will there be a de1.1 in terms of HW refresh to address some of the things you discuss in the differences? For example steel instead of ceramic for the water tank
Does visualizer upload work on the Bengle? That would be a great improvement!
In all seriousness; great incremental improvements but no real breakthroughs – which is obvious since the DE1 is light years ahead of everything else already! Cup storage on the top is a no brainer but I hope you can deactivate the heater.
Congrats you guys! Great work!
Is that an FM grinder I see?
Great rundown of the differences. ❤
For me the decision is clear. When is the Bengle available for order? Still waiting for the release.
Is there a matching grinder for the Bengle?
Can you make a cheaper DE1, perhaps without an included tablet, since everyone already has one?
The continued vision for the DE1 is exemplary for all retailers. Bravo!
Love the de1xxl, and will be getting the bengle as soon as we can in Australia. Fo you plan to have a counter sunk version?
Fantastic product and business model. Thank you for not making this feel like a money grab and continuing to support your legacy machines!
You can tell me the teflon is food safe all you want and the baby bottle steam tip as well, but I and many others like me are just not going to ever believe that. Stainless steel (and some other metals), enamelware (glass coated metal), actual glass, ceramic. Can't trust anything else.
Black with a silver wrap please!
Need this in black.
+1 on a black option. Black is the most versatile color and would be crazy to not offer.
My best friend said to me, "I could be wearing the most beautiful cashmere sweater and all you'd see is the little hole in the back." She is right. I'm obsessive compulsive about flaws. When Decent was on Kickstarter I almost pulled the trigger but decided to wait. I live by the maxim, "Never buy Version 1.0 of anything." I attended many live video streams with John Buckman. I've sent him emails and chats expressing my concerns about the DE1. He addressed every one of the questions. John is simply amazing. His passion for making the very best, high quality espresso machine is perhaps only rivaled by Kees van der Westin and Jason Prefontaine of Slayer. Both, however, make uncompromising espresso machines that are double the price of the Bengle. Right here, right now, the Decent Bengle is the espresso machine I fancifully dreamed about when the Decent was first offered on Kickstarter. I see no flaws. I see no holes. What John and his passionate and incredibly smart team did with the Decent Bengle is superlative. So am I going to finally pull the trigger and buy one? Unfortunately, not at this time. Perhaps if I lived with one for 6 months I might be convinced but we all know this isn't possible. Like a pure black cashmere sweater, I like to keep things simple. I'd rather have an Olympia Cremina. Oh yes, I'm aware of its flaws but it's mechanical simplicity but it's beyond reproach. How do you improve a spoon?
Thanks for the comparison. Good to hear that the DE1 will remain available. Unfortunately, the Bengle is way over my budget.
Thank you for this comparison video. I'd like to change my Bezzera BZ10 soon, maybe Q1/2026. At the top of the lis is the bengle atm because of better sound, steaming, design and build in scale. Can't wait 🙂
Just take my money already
Looks very cool!
Bengle looking fire, great job decent team
Will we be able to replace the DE1 pumps with bengle pumps?
When will it be released. I fancy one but it needs to be in black not white.
Is it released yet?
I just want it in black!
Really want a Bengle, waiting upgrade from lelit bianca. When can I order it?
I really hope you make an all black scupltural version of the Bengle. That would look dope!
We have a DE-1 XXL, and I'm keen to upgrade it with Bengle parts as they become available, as my wife has put her foot down on getting a new machine.
I'm wondering if a trade-in program will become available, in which case I may be able to win my wife over to getting the Bengle. 😉🇦🇺👍
I do not believe price premium of the Bengle over DE1 is the concern but instead giving the changes in the market the DE1 no longer warrants its premium over competitors. Meaning the DE1 should have come down in price.
It's so rad
