Prevagen is a popular (and expensive!) supplement claimed to improve memory. Is there enough evidence to support this claim or is Prevagen a scam? In this video, double board certified neurologist Neurogal MD evaluates the evidence.

I have read recently that atorvastatin, which is taken to reduce cholesterol can affect brain function as the brain relies on cholesterol quite a bit so by reducing the cholesterol, you can increase the possibility of some type of dementia
Do you have an opinion about that?
Thank you
Read video by the way
Thank you for explaining, it's help
What would you suggest to buy for people who have memory, focus, short term memory?.
What happened to those persons who stopped taking the drug are their studies on that
Does it interfere with blood pressure meds?
FDA unapproved expensive placebo effect crap = Prevagen
Once Marlon Brando in godfather movie literally stuffed cotton in his Jaws so he can talk like Mafia and get the bulldog look 😂😂😂 if you know what I mean.
The movie was great though
omega 3s & lecithin are good
Thank you!
Yah…. its a waste of money. Ty for this research
Planet Ayurveda Neurogenie Capsules are the best Ayurvedic brain tonic I’ve tried so far.
Thanks for the video. I see ads for this stuff constantly and it makes my blood boil. The results of that one (third) study you mentioned sound sketchy. A standard ploy of snake oil peddlers and their allies is to rely on the fact that when we say "statistically significant" we usually mean better than p=.05, which is a fancy way of saying: "There's only a 5% chance (or smaller) these positive test results were simply due to random dumb luck, leaving a whopping 95% chance it was indeed due to the effectiveness of the tested compound". 5% is another way of saying "1 in 20". So here's their trick: Even though they do only one study they break down the participants into 21 or more sub groups. Remember that "1 in 20 chance these positive results were simply due to dumb luck" thing? Well if you either keep repeating the test over and over again, OR effectively do so by making more than 20 sub categories, then voila, statistically you should expect to get one test with a "just due to random dumb luck" result. Hypothetical example: "the tested compound was found to provide a statistically significant improvement in left-handed women who wear glasses and like vanilla ice cream over strawberry, age 86-88 y.o." You then report on just that cherry-picked group and start marketing your snake oil!
Junk supplement. I used this and NOTHING changed. Omega-3’s, tyrosine, creatine all work great.
Deprenyl, also known as selegiline, is a drug with neuroprotective properties.
At low doses (e.g., 1–5 mg/day):
May enhance mental energy, motivation, and focus (via dopamine)
May protect against age-related cognitive decline
Dopaminergic neuron protection
Alkylglycerols (AKGs) are a group of naturally occurring ether lipids that serve as precursors for plasmalogens and other ether-linked phospholipids. They play important roles in immune function, lipid metabolism, and cell signaling — and are of growing interest for brain and cardiovascular health. Note: Some commercial shark liver oils contain squalene too, which has distinct effects.
She’s stunning
Since 1987,I've Had CFS/ME/FMA (Brain Fog/Ultra Tiredness & Memory Probs/LOW Energy) ,etc,etc & Nothing I've tried so far, has helped!!… 🙁 *I'm insulin resistant/mitochondrial Dysfunctioned,I Think!!… 🙂
Tried it for a few months and think it is a scam! I take an IQ test every week to monitor my brain health and while using that crap I saw a reduction not an increase in my results! I get better results with cannabis! I have stopped wasting my money on supplements that have wild claims!
My grandkids love joining my stretches now!
Its a big pharma product, they call it a supplement to make it sound natural. It will come with side effects and its not a natural product. I wouldn't even consider it because of what I've mentioned. Alpha GPC and Taurine would be far better un my opinion.
If the medication really worked we would know by now. The manufacturer would donate mountains of the stuff to institutionalized old people with memory issues to prove their assertions. Why do we bother to have an FDA when they allow financial exploitation of poor old people?
It freaking works. I can definitely feel the difference after taking one. In the best way possible
Thank you so much for this very clear and easy to follow review of Prevagen. My brother-in-law has been considering taking it for some memory loss he is experiencing. He has fibromyalgia and takes numerous pain meds for it, which possibly could be a contributing cause for the memory problems and it doesn’t sound like Prevagen is worth trying. Thanks.
Ask google if it works…NO…read the studies it references….but their still taken your money!
Did she have buccal fat removal? Makes her look older…….
My husband took it for years. He started having seizures every 2 months. He got off of Prevagen and he hasn’t had one for 10 months. At that time, the side effect were seizures and strokes. I think now they have taken that off of their warning, so people beware!
My grandmother started taking prevegen At the age of 77 now, at the age of 93.She's still swears by this medication and trust me Her memory Is better than mine and i'm Only.
Fifty one so I can say From her experience she Has told her friends she has Remaining to try this product I will say there are cheaper versions of memory pills out there. But she Has no problem spending sixty dollars a month To have her piece of mind❤ I hope this helps
All the people in the comments saying it worked for them doesn’t really get what a placebo is. There are no high-quality studies demonstrating that apoaequorin is effective for improving memory loss or for treating any health condition.
Hi DR Anna/@Neuro Gal MD I Ask Before I Go Out And Spend All Of My Laundry Money On This Stuff This So Called Brain Supplement Prevagen/Neuriva Id Like To Ask You What Should I Get Thats Actually Going To Work For My Eroding Age Related Cognitive Functions Because It Seems To Get Worse Year After Year & I Really Need Help With This Issue So I Hope I Can Hear Back From You Whenever You Can Thanks Doc & SYS @RS960
Could you please make a video on Redimind as well?
A closer look at the n° 3 study design and implementation could possibly explain some of the "significant" findings. This looks like yet another of the numerous examples where people hoping to improve some condition/health issue are hoodwinked into buying a product that is essentially an expensive placebo.
Thank you..
If there is concern that the 'Apoaequorin' won't survive the digestive tract what about
open minds herewhat about rectal administration. you'd have to put it in water first, before your Prevagen enima.I forgot what i was going to say
I have been taking Prevagen for years, and I must disagree with some of your findings. It is expensive, but I buy mine on eBay for about $20 per 30-pill bottle. It took weeks for me to notice any memory improvement, but it slowly built up and now my childhood friends are often amazed by what I can recall from our youth. What really surprised me after a year or so is my cognition increased noticeably in a matter of days. I call now these "steps;" my most recent one, no. 4, was last week. Suddenly, after a step, I would find myself doing more planning ahead, performing lifelong chores in a new, more efficient manner, reading more, reflecting and writing more, and synthesizing information in new ways. I have a master's degree in education, so I have some knowledge of brain function, and I am really enjoying the better brain that Prevagen has given me. I wish I'd had it years ago! Note, if you stop taking Prevagen, the reversal in intellect is fast, so keep a good supply handy. I hope it works for you as well as it has for me. –Old Guy
